COMPANY HISTORY



Koperasi Tunas Muda Sungai Ara Berhad (KTMSAB) was first incorporated in year 1963 by several local leaders supported by UMNO Sg Ara and Malay Cooperative Officer, Encik Jaafar bin haji Abd Majid.


The company has only been registered on 31 Disember 1966 under Company Law Cooperation 33/1948 with the name of 'Syarikat Bekerjasama-Sama Serbaguna Tunas Muda Sg Ara Dengan Tanggongan Berhad' with regisration Number 4303 which was later been amended to 'Koperasi Tunas Muda Sungai Ara Berhad' on 30 September 1980.


History and struggle for the success after the inexhaustible various obstacles as well as some contributions and sacrifices rendered by those individuals and certain parties.



On Dec 1972, one sale purchase agreement signed by KTMSAB and Penang State Government. Penang State Government purchased 260 acres of lands from KTMSAB. All the KTMSAB loans arrears considered as settled. KTMSAB also had given RM806,000.00 as the result from the transaction.

With the sales, KTMSAB still own 747 acres of the land and their permanent members are 1334 people consist of Malay, Chinese, and Indian as shown in the table below.

Chinese : 25.97%
Indian : 2.62%
Total : 100%



N.T.S. Arumugam Pillai bought most of the land. The residents of the land, mostly of the poor Malays are threatened and may be expelled by new owners when the lands are required for certain purposes such as housing development and so on.


Most of the population live on their livelihood and earn a living on the land as rubber tappers, laborers, farmers, growers and others with low and non-permanent income, an average of less than RM200.00 per month.


These residents were mostly be a members of Koperasi.
